Nine picnickers die in Thatta road smash

At least nine picnickers died and several others were injured when their van collided head on with a truck in Thatta. The tragic accident occurred in Chhalia area of Thatta where the van loaded with picnickers and bound for Keenjhar Lake collided with a truck head on, leaving nine on board the van dead.
According to police, eight people died on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The police have confirmed that the deceased, who were on their way to Keenjhar Lake for a picnic, hailed from Malir area of Karachi.
Some of the deceased were identified as Abdul Wahab, Abdullah, Tasbihullah, Noorul Wahab and Adnan. The bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Makli for post-mortem examination. Later, the bodies were transported to Karachi, where six of them have been released to their respective families. However, the remaining three bodies have yet to be identified and have been removed to a morgue.
Police officials said the truck driver managed to escape from the scene following the horrible accident. Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori expressed sorrow over the sad incident and called for a report from the Hyderabad commissioner. He directed the relevant authorities to provide the injured with all necessary medical assistance.
In addition, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf and Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani expressed their deep sorrow and regret over the tragic traffic accident, resulting in the loss of human lives.
In their separate condolence messages, both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker extended their heartfelt sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. They prayed to Allah Almighty to grant the deceased forgiveness and to give the bereaved families the strength and courage to endure this irreparable loss.
The Speaker and Deputy Speaker also expressed their hopes for the speedy recovery of the injured and instructed the relevant authorities to provide the best medical facilities and care to those affected by the accident.
