PESHAWAR
Chairman, Amun Taraqqi Party Muhammad Faiq Shah expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of a large number of precious human lives, damages of standing crops, livestock and houses during the rainstorms in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
He demanded the government to announce a special compensation package for the victims, especially for the farming community for damages of their standing crops.
Shah in his statement here on Sunday said strong winds and heavy rains, snow falls had not only claimed more than 40 lives including 25 in KP and seven in Punjab and 200 left injured but a large scale standing crop were also washed away, causing huge financial loss to the farming community.
Similarly, he said a large number of animals were also drowned in flooding situations in Bannu, Lakki Marwat and Karak districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Also, he said the power transmission line system and more than 373 feeders were tripped owing to the devastating rains, storms and snowfall, and the walls, roofs of houses collapsed.
The ATP chairman urged the central and provincial disaster management authorities to expedite relief and rescue activities in areas of KP and Punjab that had been battered by recent torrential rains, heavy storms and snowfall.
Faiq called for authorities concerned to take pragmatic steps to tackle upcoming monsoon rains in all provinces.
He condoled with the bereaved families and sympathized with the affectees.
He prayed for the elevation of ranks of the deceased in paradise and for the early recovery of the injured.
He said he hoped that the authorities concerned would deliver timely assistance in the affected areas.
He said a massive loss was inflicted to the farming community, poor people over damages of standing crops, livestock and houses, which should be compensated accordingly.
Shah called for using scientific and modern methods for early mitigation of natural disasters and calamity situations.
He emphasized all resources should be utilized to prevent losses of precious human lives, crops and livestock in the upcoming monsoon season.
On the other hand, the party chairman said that the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS) “BIPARJOY” over eastcentral Arabian Sea is maintaining its intensity and is hardly 770 kilometers away from Karachi and 750km from Thatta.
He urged the authorities to take proactive measures to prevent any kind of huge damages and destruction.
