Islamabad High Court (IHC) has adjourned the hearing of Chairman PTI petition seeking court orders for shifting him from Attock jail to Adiala jail. The petition came up for hearing before single bench of IHC led by Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Amir Farooq Friday.
Assistant Advocate General (AAG) Punjab Rao Shaukat and Sher Afzal Marwat counsel for chairman PTI appeared in the court.
The court inquired from AAG you sent chairman PTI to Attock jail when trial court sent him to Adiala jail. Shifting chairman PTI to ATTOCK jail was whose decision
AAG presented Punjab government letter on shifting chairman PTI to Attock jail. Counsel for Punjab government read out the letter.
According to text of letter Adiala jail is of sensitive nature jail. Where the prisoners are kept beyond its capacity. Most of the prisoners are nominated in the cases of bomb blasts and terrorism. Chairman PTI has not been shifted to Adiala jail due to security reasons.
Sher Afzal counsel for chairman PTI while terming these reasons ridiculous said if the prisoners are kept in Adiala jail beyond its capacity then arrival of chairman PTI therein will make what difference. In all the jails of Pakistan prisoners are kept beyond their capacity.
Sher Afzal advocate said chairman PTI has to be kept in what class, it could not be decided even in 7 days. This job primarily is a job of trial court judge.
The counsel for Punjab government took the plea we have kept five doctors for him in jail. Sher Afzal Marwat said what will happen if the personal physician of chairman PTI checks him. Dr Adnan came to Adiala jail daily to check Nawaz Sharif. You can call jail record.
Sher Afzal said we want to give Holy Quran to chairman PTI for reciting and books for reading and they are not allowing us to provide the Holy Quran and books.
Counsel for Punjab government said Holy Quran and prayers mat have already been provided to chairman PTI. Counsel for chairman PTI said chairman PTI uses English version. We were to give him English version.
Counsel for Punjab government said we will provide English version too. He further told the court we have engaged a cook separately for cooking food for chairman PTI. One medical officer and one DSP checks the meal. Then meal is served to chairman PTI.
The CJ IHC remarked the rights should be given to chairman PTI which are meant for him.
I will issue proper order in connection with meeting and facilities for chairman PTI, he observed.
The CJ IHC remarked chairman PTI is leader of a big party. He is former PM and is convicted too. We have to take along both the things. If one or two persons are going to jail then no law and order situation creates. If 40 or 50 people go then the thing is different.
The court adjourned the hearing of chairman PTI petition for shifting him to Adiala jail.
