China trading goods for Afghanistan under TIR arrives at Torkham

Under the agreement of the Transport International Route (TIR) first ever merchandise commodities from China to Afghanistan arrived in Torkham last day.
In this connection a simple gathering that was attended by Directorate transit trade Arbab Qaisar Hamid, representatives of Afghan government, Joint Secretary of Pak-Afghan Chamber of Commerce Ziaul Haq Sarhadi, President Clearing Agents Association, Torkham Riaz Shinwari,custom and forces officials and scores of traders.
Speaking on the occasion Arbab Qaisar Hamid said that the positive initiatives, adopted by the custom department would not enhance Afghan transit trade but would boost business with Central Asia.
Opportunities are there to improve trade ties with Russia via Ghulam Khan crossing, he added and said efforts would be made to increase land and aerial business.
Later on the Kabul bound transit crossed to Afghanistan.
TIR is an international convention through which import and export is done by road within various member countries without much custom documentation and examination process.
It is to be mentioned here that last month in July under the TIR convention a container loaded with white grain from Russia crossed into Pakistan via the Torkham border.
