ISLAMABAD
“Good to see you all my friends”.
This was said by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial while talking to the lawyers in his last case in Supreme Court (SC).
The lawyer Mian Bilal said to the CJP When you heard your first case in high court then it was I who appeared before you. Today there is last case of yours in SC and I am appearing before you here too.
The CJP said to the counsel your case has become in-fructuous. But if you give arguments then “dil ko khush rakhne ka laye Ghalib ye khial acha ha”.
The lawyer Mian Bilal said you heard us with patience always.
The CJP Umar Ata Bandial remarked it is our obligation to hear every one with patience. Bar has always extended cooperation to us and we have got much from Bar to learn.
He further remarked by wearing black coat we consider ourselves part of bar. Justice Sahir Ali used to say bar is our mother. We will meet in bar room by grace of Allah.
He remarked I am thankful to media friends who kept me active. We welcome media criticism.
Media must criticize the decisions but it should not criticize the judges.
He observed the judges cannot defend them in response to media criticism. Before criticizing judge, it should be seen either it is based on truth or speculations. Criticism on judges should not be based on falsehood.
