KP gets Rs415.50b from centre to combat terrorism

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has received Rs415.50 billion funds from the federal government from 2010 till 2023 under the head of war on terrorism, said a special report.
According to the report, the funds have been given to successive provincial governments to fight against the threat of terrorism. However, the report said, a majority of these funds were utilized on the reconstruction of roads, bridges, schools, and police stations in areas severely affected by terrorism.
The reports revealed that Rs15.92 were utilized under the head of compensation program initiated by the provincial government for those who lost their lives in line of duty in the war on terrorism and Rs1.70 billion were earmarked and utilized on the setting-up anti-terrorism courts in the province.
In the financial year 2009-10, the provincial government of KP utilized a substantial amount on the purchase of weapons and other equipment for the police force, the report added. It is pertinent to mention here that KP has also utilized Rs17.20 under the head of security allowances and Rs33.88 billion of other security projects in the province during the same period of time. 
It is pertinent to mention here that KP Finance Department had made a request to the federal government for the audit of the funds allocated to the province for combating the threat of terrorism. Following the request, former Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has issued special directives for the audit of the funds.
