Misinformation eroding public confidence in “institutions”, says Kakakhel

The provincial minister for information Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel on Friday said that misinformation spreading on different social media platforms are creating unrest among general masses and eroding public confidence in state institutions, saying responsible journalism need of the hour to combat spread of fake news and misinformation.
He said this while addressing a National Security Workshop in Peshawar.
Led by the caretaker Minister of Information and Public Relations, Barrister Feroz Jamal Shah Kakakhel, and Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, the participants received an in-depth briefing covering the security dynamics, overall law and order situation, financial affairs, and development planning for the province.
The session, was attended by Additional Chief Secretary home Abid Majeed, and witnessed the active involvement of secretaries from relevant departments, along with other senior civil and military officials.
Among the distinguished participants were former Governor KP Engineer Shaukatullah and representatives from diverse fields. Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel, extending a warm welcome on behalf of Chief Minister Justice (R) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah, addressed the workshop attendees.
Caretaker Minister Barrister Feroz Jamal Shah Kakakhel highlighted various facets of good governance and emphasized measures taken for public interest.
He underscored the importance of tackling illegal activities, such as smuggling, hoarding of currencies, prevention of illegal mobile SIM usage, extortion, and other crimes, for sustaining economic development.
Addressing the issue of irresponsible social media use, the Minister stressed its adverse effects on social attitudes. Referring to a recent incident in Kohistan, he cited the misuse of social media as a factor negatively impacting the cultural values of the province.
Barrister Feroz Jamal Shah Kakakhel commended the resilience of the people, institutions, and responsible journalism in thwarting attempts to create a gap between institutions and the public through misinformation on social media.
Discussing the economic and tourism potential of the province, the caretaker Minister highlighted ongoing efforts to attract domestic and international tourists and investors. He affirmed that economic stabilization through tourism development is a key focus, with initiatives underway to enhance facilities for investors and tourists alike.
