Pakistan’s 15-member U-19 team for the ICC U-19 World Cup has been announced, Saad Baig will lead the team.
Under-19 World Cup will be held in South Africa from January 19 to February 11, 2024.
Junior Selection Committee had called 45 cricketers who performed best before the ACC U-19 Asia Cup for a training camp in Karachi and from this pool 15 players have been selected for the World Cup.
According to the spokesman, Muhammad Zeeshan and Ali Asfand, who are included in the selected squad, have represented Pakistan in the U-19 World Cup held in West Indies last year, in which Pakistan was in fifth position, while 12 cricketers in the squad are those who have participated in the recent U-19 Asia Cup held in Dubai.
In this tournament, after going undefeated in the group stage, Pakistan lost to the United Arab Emirates in the semi-finals.
In the Under-19 Asia Cup, Mohammad Zeeshan was the highest wicket-taker for Pakistan with 11 wickets, including a six-wicket haul of 19 runs against Nepal, while Obaid Shah was second with ten wickets.
In batting, Azan Owais scored 222 runs in four innings, in which the match-winning 105 runs not out against India was noteworthy.
Captain Saad Baig scored half-centuries against Nepal (50), India (68 not out) and United Arab Emirates (50) and scored a total of 176 runs. Hussain also hit five sixes and seven against Afghanistan. He was the player of the match by scoring 75 runs with the help of fours.
Before leaving for the Under-19 World Cup, the Pakistan team will participate in a camp in Lahore from December 28 to January 6.
