The outgoing Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC), Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, expressed profound gratitude during his farewell speech to the Full Court held at Peshawar High Court on Monday. Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan extended appreciation to every litigant and individual who has appeared before his court, emphasizing the merit-based nature of his decisions and offering accountability before Allah the Almighty for any dissatisfaction.
His tenure, spanning thousands of judgments, both as a district judge and in elevated positions, reflects a dedication to upholding the highest standards of the judicial system. Notably, out of 509 judgments challenged before the Supreme Court of Pakistan, 279 were upheld, underscoring the rigor and merit of his decisions.
Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan recalls the work of a commission tasked with probing the tragic incident at the Army Public School, a challenge he approached with diligence and compassion. His tenure has also been marked by significant contributions, including record numbers of amicably settled family cases and successfully addressed human rights applications.
“In the recent political turmoil, Peshawar High Court received thousands of petitions from outside the limits of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which were decided virtuously within the four corners of law. I have no affiliation whatsoever with any political party or figure but unfortunately, one political party had preferred these petitions and though I have paid hefty price but I am overwhelmed to proclaim that the Chief Justice of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa preferred to triumph the Rule of law at the cost of career progression. Here, I would prefer to quote the words of Allah the Almighty mentioned in Quran “And whoever is mindful of Allah, He will make a way out for them”, he said during his speech to the Full Court.
In bidding farewell, Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan extended heartfelt blessings and best wishes to his successors, urging them to carry forward the torch of justice with pride, integrity, and compassion. “To my successors Judge Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, I offer my heartfelt blessings, best wishes and humble prayers. Behind every case file lies a human story—a story that deserves to be heard, understood, and respected”, he said.
It is to mention here that Chief Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan is retiring from office on April 14. Justice Ibrhim Khan’s illustrious journey began with education at Cadet College Kohat, followed by academic excellence culminating in gold medalist honors in LLB. Prior to his judicial career, he served as a lecturer and practiced law for eight years.
