LHC orders to impound smoke emitting vehicles

Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered to impound smoke emitting vehicles.
Justice Shahid Karim of LHC took up for hearing petitions filed by citizen Haroon Farooq and others seeking remedy of environmental problem and eradication of smog here Friday.
The court remarked during the hearing of the case “ stern action be taken against smoke emitting vehicle. Such vehicles be impounded. These vehicles should not be allowed to come on road unless they are rectified. Service roads be painted with tyre color.
Member judicial council informed the court sale of dead chicken market in Tollinton market is the biggest problem.
Food authority has seized 47000 kilogram dead chicken. But the vehicles which carried these dead chicken remained untraceable. Now safe city has been entrusted the duty of tracking these vehicles.
Justice Shahid Karim inquired who is taking responsibility of Tollinton market.
Member Judicial Commission (JC) told this is area of LDA. Responsibility also rests with market association too in this regard.
Member JC further told there are 581 service stations in Lahore and recycle plants are available in 518 service stations. Notices have been issued to remaining service stations.
Counsel for WASA told the court “ we have started installing water meters in homes.
The court directed water meters be installed in all societies.
Justice Shahid Karim told during the hearing overspeeding challan came in my home. I became target of joke due to it. I tried to pay challan online but there is no option.
The court while directing to paint tyre colors on service roads and initiate stern action against smoke emitting vehicles adjourned the hearing of the case.
