In the light of the orders of the provincial government, Deputy Commissioner Dir Lower Muhammad Arif Khan said that 0.5 to 0.6 million free plants would be distributed under the Billion plus Tree Plantation drive in Dir Lower.
The decision in this connection was taken in a meeting attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner General and Focal Person Green Growth Strategy – Billion Tree Plus Plantation Drive along with Bashir Khan and all stakeholders regarding Green Growth Strategy – Billion Tree Plus Plantation Drive.
The meeting was held with Divisional Forest Officer Asif Ali Shah gave a detailed briefing to all the stakeholders regarding the plantation drive and the orders of the provincial government.
The meeting decided that 0.5 or 0.6 million saplings will be distributed free of cost in the next five years and more than 330 hectares of land will be planted. The meeting said that 70,000 wild olive trees will be planted on an area of about 75 hectares in Dir Lower.
It decided that saplings will be planted in all educational institutions, government offices, hospitals, sports grounds, religious schools. The Forest Department will organize 40 public events across the district on the importance of trees, impact of global warming and also create public awareness on social, front and electronic media.
DC while giving instructions said that plantation is a national duty of all of us. Prepare a report as soon as possible by determining the locations of all the departments as to where and how many plants are to be planted so that they can be planted according to the demand.
Assistant Commissioners, Additional Assistant Commissioners will supervise Plantation Drive in their respective sub-divisions. Importance of trees, special campaigns should be started on social, front, electronic media to reduce the impact of climate change in Pakistan due to global warming. Action will be taken against the mafia who cut forests. Along with planting trees, their maintenance is also important, DC Dir Lower said.
More than 50 Sadabahar plants of different varieties were distributed on this occasion among the people under the drive.
Soon after the meeting, DC Dir Lower Muhammad Arif Khan gave a certificate of appreciation to In-charge Traffic Police Khan Nazar Khan for his excellent traffic management and timely action on public complaints regarding traffic.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Finance and Planning) Jan Muhammad was also present on this occasion.
