Following directives of Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, Muhammad Sohail Rajput, the Regional Director of Provincial Ombudsman Badin, Manzoor Ali Soomro has conducted surprise visit of District Jail Badin on Wednesday.
During the visit, Regional Director inquired about the food, medical facilities, and other details from the prisoners. He also discussed the court dates for the prisoners.
On this occasion, he directed Jail Superintendent Mazhar Ali Behan to treat the prisoners with respect while adhering to prison regulations and to ensure the protection of human rights.
He emphasized that jails should serve as reformatories for prisoners and that proper measures should be taken for their rehabilitation so that they can become responsible citizens and leave behind a life of crime after their release.
He instructed Additional Director, Social Welfare to call the NGOs working for the welfare of prisoners to assist poor prisoners and provide them with legal advisors and counsel to fulfill their legal requirements.
On the occasion, Jail Superintendent Mazhar Ali Behan briefed the Regional Director of the Provincial Ombudsman Badin in detail about the jail. He informed that there were 787 prisoners in the jail, out of which 32 are under the age of 18. He mentioned that food is provided according to the jail menu, and doctors are available at all times for sick prisoners.
The Jail Superintendent also provided a briefing on the use of video link technology for court trials of the prisoners, stating that using modern technology, prisoners can be presented in court via video link from the jail. He also mentioned that, with the cooperation of the Health Department, disinfectant sprays and mosquito-killing sprays are conducted every fifteen days.
During the visit, District Health Officer Dr. Zaheeruddin Memon, Assistant Registrar Provincial Ombudsman Badin, Raza Muhammad Dil, Additional Director, Social Welfare, Abdul Ghafar Khoso, Dr. Shehzad Mallah, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Assistant Jail Superintendent Ali Gul Gabol, District Information Officer, Sarfraz Samoon, and other officers were also present
