Ex-CM says Modi stopping our water, rulers of Punjab resorting violence against farmers

LAHORE (INP): Central leader Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) and former CM Punjab, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has said that our government must stop destroying the agriculture sector of Pakistan by importing Indian potatoes, tomatoes and other vegetables.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said that on one had India was rendering damages to our agriculture and farmers by stopping water of our rivers and on other hand Punjab government rulers were resorting to violence against growers by arresting and putting them in jails.
Condemning the crackdowns against farmers, Parvez Elahi said that instead of putting our growers in jails, the rulers should immediately accept their demands and provide them low cost electricity, water, fertilizer, seed and massive incentives and facilities as endowed to them in PML-Q tenure.
He said that PML-Q supports the justified demands of the farmers and will strongly oppose any anti-farmer policy.
The former CM said, “Pakistan is an agricultural country, if farmer of the country do not prosper then how can Pakistan become prosperous.”
Parvez Elahi further said that the farmers are concerned about their ready crops but the rulers have forced them to protest.
While during our tenure, he said we had exempted twelve and half acres of agricultural land from tax, 50 per cent of electricity bill for tube-wells was paid by our government, water was carried till tail, subsidy was given in fertilizer prices, concrete water courses were constructed as such along with providing incentives. He said our government had undertaken adequate measures for their prosperity which Shehbaz Sharif had scrapped due to which the farmer is in miserable condition today.
