In an ongoing crackdown against drug addiction, the provincial government detained over 57 drug addicts from various areas of Peshawar on Friday, marking the second day of the Drug-Free Peshawar campaign.
The drive , launched by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, focused on areas including Sherpao Hospital Road, Railway Line, Board Bazaar, and other neighborhoods, with the addicts being transferred to rehabilitation centers for treatment.
The operation, supervised by Peshawar Division Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud, saw two volunteers injured in a blade attack by the drug addicts, with medical aid provided by Rescue 1122.
Despite the challenges, the operation continued throughout the weekend, with authorities expanding their efforts to urban and suburban areas, such as University Road, Factories, and Hayatabad, where addicts had taken refuge in cemeteries and other secluded spots to avoid the raids.
In response to these risks, special clothes and gloves were provided to the raiding teams, and efforts are being made to ensure that the drug addicts receive quality treatment at rehabilitation centers offering the best facilities.
