PESHAWAR: The Pakhtunkhwa Petroleum Dealers Association has strongly opposed the government’s proposed petroleum deregulation policy, calling it an “economic murder” of petrol pump owners. Addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, Association President Gul Nawaz Khan Afridi, along with Akhtar Nawaz Khan, Maqsood Anwar, and Amjad Ali Shinwari, warned that deregulation would turn oil companies into a monopoly, leaving consumers at their mercy. They argued that Pakistan’s economy relies heavily on oil-related taxes and that deregulation would disrupt the market, allowing oil companies to import fuel solely for their benefit while reducing transparency in the sector.
