The Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) has strongly condemned the alleged harassment of journalists Salman Yousafzai and Nabi Jan Orakzai by Assistant Commissioner (AC) Haroon and police personnel, demanding strict action against those involved.
In a statement issued by the KhUJ office, Executive Council members, including President Kashifuddin Syed and General Secretary Irshad Ali, urged the Chief Minister KP and the Inspector General of Police to take immediate notice of the incident.
They termed the behavior of AC Haroon and the police officers towards members of the Peshawar Press Club (PPC) and KhUJ as unacceptable and called for a thorough investigation.
According to KhUJ officials, the incident occurred near Customs Chowk, where the two journalists were performing their professional duties. They alleged that AC Haroon and accompanying police officers forcibly snatched their mobile phones for recording a video and threatened to detain them. The KhUJ has warned that if action is not taken against the officials involved, journalists across the province will stage strong protests. The union reiterated its commitment to press freedom and urged authorities to ensure the protection of media professionals.
