Gemology, lapidary courses, funded by NEVTTC kicks off at UET

PESHAWAR: The six-month “Gemstone Identification (Gemology)” and three-month “Gemstone Cutting & Polishing (Lapidary)” certification courses have commenced at the Gems and Jewellery Center of Excellence (GJCoE) UET Peshawar. The course is fully funded by the National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) under the Prime Minister Youth Skill Development Programme. A total of 106 young individuals from different walks of life have enrolled in the programme, which aims to provide a combination of practical knowledge and theoretical expertise, preparing them for careers in gemstone and jewelry sectors. The orientation ceremony, held here Monday was attended by the students and faculty members. Prof. Dr. Khizar Azam, Registrar UET Peshawar was the chief guest at the orientation ceremony. Addressing the students he said, the Prime Minister Youth Skill Development Programme under the umbrella of NAVTTC is an excellent opportunity for the youth to gain specialized skills that will help them succeed in the gemstone industry. He urged the students to benefit from this opportunity and contribute significantly in Pakistan through growing gemstone sector. Dr. Nisar Muhamamd, Director GJCoE UET Peshawar welcomed the participants and highlighted the increasing demand for qualified professionals in the gemstone sector in Pakistan. APP
