DC Peshawar chairs meeting on flood preparedness plan

A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Peshawar, Sarmad Saleem Akram, to formulate a joint action plan for timely and effective response to potential flood threats during the ongoing monsoon season.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Relief) Uzma Mukarram, officials from Rescue 1122, the Irrigation Department, Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP), Civil Defense, Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs), Revenue Department, and other relevant departments.
DC Peshawar Akram emphasized the need for interdepartmental coordination and directed all departments to immediately submit comprehensive details of available machinery, staff, dewatering pumps, and response strategies to the district administration. He further instructed that all on-ground preparations be completed without delay to safeguard human lives and property in case of any emergency.
Participants were also tasked with providing updated information on the current capacities of rivers, canals, and drainage channels, as well as potential flood risk levels and the operational status of dewatering equipment.
Highlighting the unpredictability of monsoon patterns and weather fluctuations, the DC stated that timely decision-making, proactive planning, and coordinated district-level response remain top priorities.
He urged all departments to expedite their respective preparedness measures and ensure practical readiness to handle any potential disaster effectively.
