A separate dialysis ward for AIDS patients was opened at Nishtar Hospital on Saturday, a major step toward controlling infection and taking care of patients.
The facility was jointly opened by Nishtar Medical University (NMU) VC Prof. Dr. Mehnaz Khakwani and Medical Superintendent Dr. Rao Amjad Ali, who also prayed for patients’ recovery.
Prof. Dr. Khakwani said the hospital is rapidly expanding services to meet the growing healthcare needs of South Punjab. “We are committed to adding new facilities every day to ensure safe and quality care for our patients,” she noted.
Dr. Rao Amjad said the initiative reflects the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique to strengthen public healthcare.
He added that the new ward has separate staff, machines, an RO plant, and medicines to prevent cross-contamination.
A patient receiving treatment said he previously paid Rs. 8,000 per dialysis session, but now the procedure and related care are completely free of cost at Nishtar Hospital.
Prof. Dr. Khakwani also directed staff to strictly follow SOPs and announced plans to add more dialysis machines soon.
Senior hospital officials, including Dr. Abdul Qadir Khan, Dr. Liza Waheed, Dr. Zahid, Dr. Farooq, and Dr. Ismail Siddiqui, attended the ceremony.
