The provincial government has formally launched its first-ever Social Protection Strategy, marking a major step toward inclusive welfare and resilience.
The strategy was developed with support from the German government through GIZ and FCDO, a handout said.
The launch ceremony, held in Peshawar under the Planning and Development Department, was attended by senior government officials, development partners, academics, and civil society representatives.
Muhammad Nadir Khan Rana, Special Secretary of the Planning and Development Department, said social protection is not only a moral duty but a key investment in human development. “This initiative marks the beginning of a new era of dignity, inclusion, and social stability in the province,” he said.
Officials stated the strategy builds on the province’s Social Protection Policy 2022 and aims to reduce poverty, promote gender equality, increase employment, and strengthen disaster response.
It introduces a unified system to integrate various welfare programs under one framework.
Speaking on the occasion, GIZ’s Country Director called the initiative a “historic step” and praised KP’s leadership for its political commitment and consultative approach.
The strategy includes establishing a Social Protection Authority, a Provincial Socio-Economic Registry, and a Unified Payment System to improve transparency, eliminate duplication, and ensure better service delivery.
Officials emphasized that the real challenge lies in effective implementation to deliver tangible benefits to vulnerable populations.
