President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill, making it an official part of the Constitution of Pakistan. The bill had earlier been passed by both the National Assembly and the Senate with the required two-thirds majority. The Senate approved the amendment during a session chaired by Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani, where Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar presented the revised text for clause-by-clause approval. The National Assembly had also endorsed the amendment the previous day, securing the support of 234 members – ten more than the required 224.
However, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) opposed the bill.
