Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Afridi held a special session with federal journalists, emphasizing the need to strengthen provincial intelligence and law enforcement to effectively combat terrorism.
Speaking to the media, CM Afridi said he values journalists’ suggestions and has come to hear their concerns regarding both federal matters and party affairs. He highlighted that if the province receives its due share of federal funds—around PKR 3,000 billion—it would significantly improve the capabilities of police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).
CM Afridi noted that even a small percentage of federal funds is dedicated to the fight against terrorism, stressing that robust intelligence is critical to controlling militancy.
“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is at the forefront of the war against terrorism. Our province has sacrificed over 8,000 lives, including 6,000 security personnel and civilians from various sectors,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of border security in curbing smuggling activities, including cross-border drugs, fake cigarettes, non-duty vehicles, and other contraband reaching areas such as Malakand. CM Afridi added that promoting legal agricultural crops, like saffron, could prevent the growth of illicit drugs and provide employment opportunities, contributing to prosperity in the region.
