Provincial minister for elementary and secondary education Arshad Ayub Khan has ordered an inquiry into the alleged printing of additional textbooks worth Rs130 million by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Textbook Board, directing strict legal action against those found responsible, said a handout.
Expressing strong displeasure, the minister said the printing of 400,000 extra books had caused a significant loss to the national exchequer and that those involved “cannot be forgiven.”
He instructed the Textbook Board to ensure full transparency in its printing processes and to align all procedures with established rules, regulations, and financial frameworks.
The directives were issued while he presided over a briefing on the affairs of the Textbook Board. Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education Muhammad Khalid, Board Chairman Abidullah Kakakhel, Secretary Dr. Zainullah, and other officials attended the meeting.
During the session, the board chairman presented a detailed report on ongoing operations and challenges. The minister emphasised that printing should strictly match actual demand and market requirements to prevent wasteful expenditure. He also stressed the need to maintain high standards of textbook quality.
Arshad Ayub Khan further directed the board to ensure timely availability of new curriculum textbooks for students in grades 9 to 11 ahead of the upcoming academic year, following recent curriculum revisions.
