Police on Monday claimed to have dismantled an organized gang involved in car and motorcycle thefts, with the arrest of three key members of the criminal group.
The operations were conducted by the SHO Khanrazaq Police Station Riaz Afridi and SHO Shah Qabool Hashmat Khan.
The arrested persons have been identified as Jawad, Shamsuddin alias Gran, and Suleman. Another suspect, Khalid, a resident of Faqirabad, remains at large, said police officers.
Police claimed that the arrested persons were part of an international network engaged in the theft of vehicles and motorcycles across Peshawar, particularly in the inner city.
Notably, two of the accused are from Afghanistan, while the third hails from the inner city locality of Jogan Shah.
The gang had been linked to numerous incidents of vehicle and motorcycle theft in various areas.
The arrests were made following a meticulous investigation based on modern scientific methods, which led to the identification and capture of the suspects.
During initial questioning, the accused confessed to their involvement in several thefts and other serious crimes. Police have successfully recovered three vehicles and seven motorcycles, which were seized from the gang’s possession. Further investigations have also revealed the identities of additional suspects, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
The operation began after separate complaints were lodged by various victims at Khan Raziq Shaheed Police Station and Shah Qabool Police Station.
In a show of transparency and accountability, SP City Shahid Adnan personally summoned the victims to his office, where the recovered vehicles and motorcycles were returned to their rightful owners.
