In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, residents of the Chenani area in Udhampur district staged a protest, demanding immediate action to address environmental and public health hazards caused by continuous garbage dumping along the Tawi River.
According to Kashmir Media Service, protesters raised slogans against the local authorities, accusing them of ignoring the issue despite repeated complaints. They said the dumping was contaminating the water supply to Chenani and Udhampur town, leading to cases of jaundice, diarrhoea and skin diseases among residents.
The protesters demanded a permanent and scientific solution to the problem and warned that if the authorities failed to act, they would be left with no option but to block the national highway to press their demands.
So far, the authorities have not announced any concrete plan to relocate the dumping site or mitigate the health risks, further fuelling public anger and concern over the deteriorating environmental situation in the area.
