Speaker KP assembly put on notice in May 9 attack on radio Pakistan case

PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court (PHC) has issued notice to speaker KP assembly in connection with May 9 attack on Radio Pakistan Peshawar. The court issued this notice on the petition through which notification regarding constitution of inquiry commission issued by speaker has been challenged. A two members bench comprising justice Sahibzada Asad Ullah and justice Khurshid Iqbal heard the petition. The counsel for the petitioner took the plea the notification of inquiry commission issued by speaker provincial assembly is neither under any law nor has it any legal standing. According to counsel speaker has no power to interfere in court’s proceedings. He argued speaker can constitute committees on daily matters or matters related to welfare of people but constitution of commission in such heinous criminal case is illegal without proposed or approved law. The counsel for the petitioner informed the court that case of attack on radio Pakistan is pending hearing in court since last two years. No parallel forum can be allowed to influence court’s proceedings. The accused nominated in the case are related to sitting provincial assembly. Radio Pakistan has appointed its own counsel. It was told that videos related to attack have been presented in the court. The plea for forensic analysis was also approved. APP
