Srinagar: Anganwadi workers (AWWs) and their helpers staged a protest in Srinagar, demanding release of pending wages, regularization of services, and other long-pending benefits, citing growing frustration over the occupation authorities’ indifference to their grievances. According to Kashmir Media Service, the workers said they have repeatedly raised issues such as timely salary payments, enhancement of honorarium, and provision of pension benefits, but their demands remain unaddressed. During the protest, workers called for their issues to be taken up in the IIOJK Assembly so that a concrete policy decision could be made in their favor. They emphasized that despite playing a crucial role in child nutrition, health, and welfare schemes at the grassroots level, they continue to face unfair treatment. ONLINE
Protesters highlighted that many Anganwadi workers and helpers struggle to meet daily needs due to meager wages and irregular payments. They warned that if authorities fail to address their concerns, they would escalate their agitation to demand regularization of services and social security benefits, including pensions, to ensure dignity and stability for thousands of workers.
