The Finance Department of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has directed its attached departments and field formations to ensure economical use of petroleum products in view of the evolving global situation and the need to maintain uninterrupted government operations.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, the department said precautionary and conservation measures had become necessary to ensure the continued functioning of government offices across the province.
According to the statement, Secretary Finance KP issued instructions to all offices and field formations of the department to ensure prudent and economical use of petroleum products.
The statement said the use of fuel should be restricted to essential official duties, emergency response activities and unavoidable field operations.
It further directed that outstation visits, unnecessary inspections, ceremonial engagements and non-essential official travel should be immediately limited.
Government vehicles, the department said, should be used strictly for official purposes. Offices were also instructed to encourage shared use of vehicles wherever possible and avoid deploying multiple vehicles for the same official activity.
The finance department also advised that internal, interdepartmental and coordination meetings should, as far as possible, be conducted through virtual platforms in order to minimise unnecessary travel and reduce fuel consumption.
It said proper monitoring and record-keeping of petroleum allocations and vehicle usage should be ensured by the relevant administrative offices.
Heads of attached departments and offices were also asked to create awareness among officers and staff about the economical use of government resources in view of the current situation.
The secretary finance further directed that the ongoing budget cycle and preparation of the provincial budget for the next financial year should remain the department’s top priority.
He emphasised that the conservation measures must not, under any circumstances, disrupt the budget cycle or the budget preparation process.
The statement added that strict compliance with these instructions should be ensured and that the directives should be communicated to all subordinate offices.
