A spokesperson for the National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) stated that, on the special directives of IG Motorway Police Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry, a nationwide enforcement campaign against overcharging and overloading has been underway since March 15, 2026. During the campaign, an amount of more than Rs. 0.9 million recovered from transport operators on account of excessive fares was returned to passengers at various locations. The spokesperson said that enforcement actions were taken against 908 vehicles for overloading, while 382 passenger vehicles were proceeded against for overcharging. In addition, during the campaign, 767 public service vehicles were fined for operating without route permits, while 401 vehicles were issued tickets for carrying expired route permits. Similarly, 594 public service vehicles were penalized for not having fitness certificates, whereas 351 vehicles were fined for having expired fitness certificates, the spokesperson added.
The NHMP spokesperson urged citizens to report violations and register complaints through the helpline130 or via NHMP’s official social media handle @NHMP. The spokesperson further said that, in view of fuel conservation and cost-saving measures, enforcement against violations of the revised speed limits has resulted in over 20,000 tickets issued so far. NHMP officers are also conducting awareness activities at toll plazas nationwide to educate road users regarding the updated speed limits.
