A mass wedding ceremony was held in Landikotal on Sunday,where a large number of social and political leaders, along with local residents, attended the waleema celebrations.
Assistant commissioner Landikotal, Inamullah Wazir, attended the event as the chief guest. Among other prominent attendees were former mayor and social worker Shah Khalid Shinwari, SHO Ishrat Shinwari, Chairman of Torkham Customs Agents Association Mirajuddin Shinwari, religious scholars, social workers, and family members of the newlywed couples.
A total of 25 couples from the Shinwari, Shalman, Afridi, and Mulagori tribes were married during the ceremony. This marked the fifth edition of the mass wedding initiative organized by the Shinwari Welfare Organization (SWO). So far, 125 couples have benefited from this initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, SWO Central President Aslam Khan Shinwari congratulated the couples and wished them a bright future. He stated that such events are made possible through the financial support of philanthropists and well-off individuals. He added that deserving families are selected purely on merit and provided financial assistance.
Former mayor Shah Khalid Shinwari described the event as a joyful occasion not only for the couples but for the entire community. He praised SWO for helping underprivileged youth get married and appreciated local residents for supporting Afghan repatriates stranded in Landikotal due to border closures.
He urged philanthropists to continue their support for poor families and encouraged the public to celebrate weddings within cultural and legal boundaries, discouraging aerial firing.
Mirajuddin Shinwari said that Haji Aslam Shinwari has set a strong example by organizing mass weddings for underprivileged families in the area.
On the occasion, Qari Muhammadullah Shinwari, General Secretary of the SWO Peshawar unit, donated clothes for all grooms, while Ali Zafar, President of Hangu Shinwari Welfare Organization, provided cash assistance.
Aslam Shinwari further shared that approximately five million rupees were spent on providing home appliances for the 25 couples.
Other speakers at the event included Maulana Nisar Ahmad Junaidi, Qari Muhammadullah Sayed, Ishrat Shinwari, Assistant Commissioner Inamullah Wazir, Ali Zafar, and Maulana Fakhr-e-Alam Saddiqui.
