A meeting of the Standing Committee on minerals department of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was held at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat on Tuesday, where key administrative, legal and policy matters of the department came under discussion.
The meeting was chaired by Committee Chairman and MPA Ikramullah Ghazi and attended by committee members including Muhammad Yamin Khan, Muhammad Zubair Khan, Muhammad Anwar Khan, Ahmed Karim Kundi, Ms. Faiza Malik, and Subia Shahid. Senior officials from the minerals department, including the Secretary Minerals, Director General Minerals, representatives of the Law Department, Additional Advocate General, and Assembly Secretariat officers were also present.
The committee reviewed parliamentary questions and examined the implementation status of decisions taken in the previous meeting. Officials briefed the committee on issues raised earlier by MPA Ahmed Karim Kundi.
Chairman Ikramullah Ghazi directed that a follow-up meeting be convened next week, with the participation of relevant officers, to ensure resumption of work on closed mineral leases and to address disputes in order to secure development gains and revenue for the province.
He further instructed the department to submit complete details of all legal advisers attached to the department, along with their remuneration and other benefits, at the earliest. Emphasising timely disposal of pending cases, the chairman said delays must be eliminated to ensure improved public service delivery and outcomes.
Ikramullah Ghazi also stressed strict enforcement of the two-year posting and transfer policy, directing that officials completing or exceeding tenure at a station be transferred without exception, ensuring merit and transparency in the process.
Also, the committee chairman directed that experts from geology and mineral sectors be invited to the next session for technical input. He also called for the expedited establishment of a Mineral Testing Authority to strengthen governance in the sector and enhance provincial revenue from mineral resources.
