The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Monday arrested five Pakistani nationals at the Torkham border crossing point for attempting to enter Afghanistan using fake travel documents, officials said.
According to the FIA, the action was taken by immigration authorities at Torkham during passenger clearance under the Integrated Border Management System. Officials detected five cases involving fake manifests and intercepted the suspects before they could cross the border.
An FIA spokesperson said the arrested individuals were trying to bypass the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) system to travel to Afghanistan. Initial investigations revealed that each of the accused had paid Rs50,000 to obtain the forged manifests.
The inquiry further pointed to the involvement of an agent identified as Fahad, who was believed to have facilitated the illegal documentation.
The suspects were shifted to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle (AHTC) of the FIA in Peshawar for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The operation was carried out by Inspector Adnan Ahmed Jan, Head Constable Mahmood Khan and Frontier Corps official Usman Ghani, the FIA added.
