Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan on Tuesday strongly criticised Nawaz Sharif over his remarks on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, terming them an implicit acknowledgment of the performance of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
In a statement, Mr Jan said it had been Mr Sharif’s “consistent practice” to leave the country during difficult times, adding that the people of Pakistan had rejected what he described as an incompetent political group and given their mandate to PTI founder Imran Khan.
He said voters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had, for the third time, expressed confidence in Mr Khan, demonstrating a preference for performance over claims. He alleged that those who assumed power in the federation and Punjab through “Form 47” had already been rejected by the public.
Jan claimed that Mr Sharif had not only been rejected by voters in his own constituency but had also been sidelined within his party. He criticised the former premier’s political conduct, alleging that he had previously conducted politics from abroad and was now targeting KP’s performance for political survival.
The aide said governance in the federation and Punjab had been reduced to personal interests, urging Mr Sharif to address what he termed poor performance in those regions instead of criticising KP.
Referring to Yasmin Rashid, he said she had defeated Mr Sharif in general elections but was currently imprisoned in what he described as “fabricated cases”, while those who allegedly stole the public mandate had not been held accountable.
Mr Jan also criticised conditions in south Punjab, alleging deterioration in health, education and infrastructure sectors, and said Mr Sharif’s party lacked a performance agenda, resorting instead to “baseless criticism”.
He added that the former prime minister’s criticism stemmed from Mr Khan’s continued popularity among the public, reiterating that voters had once again endorsed PTI’s leadership.
