Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Climate Change, Forests, Environment and Wildlife, Pir Musavir Khan, has stressed that effective measures are essential for environmental protection and climate resilience, pledging full government support to strengthen the province’s environmental watchdog.
During a visit to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) here on Wednesday, Pir Musavir Khan was briefed on the agency’s performance, ongoing reforms, key achievements, challenges, and future plans. The briefing was presented by EPA Director Afsar Ali in the presence of Secretary Climate Change, Forests, Environment and Wildlife Junaid Khan, EPA Director General Asadullah Khan, and other senior officials.
The EPA updated the advisor on its role in enforcing environmental laws across the province, controlling pollution, monitoring industrial emissions, approving Environmental Impact Assessments, and promoting sustainable development.
Praising the EPA’s work, Pir Musavir Khan said a clean, safe, and healthy environment is a fundamental right of every citizen, and that the government would mobilize all resources to protect it.
He noted that rising challenges from climate change and pollution make it urgent to boost institutional capacity.
The advisor directed the EPA to accelerate enforcement of environmental laws, adopt modern monitoring systems, expand public awareness campaigns, and promote eco-friendly technologies in industry. He also assured support to address institutional gaps, including staff shortages, promotions, setting up district-level offices, and providing modern equipment.
