ISLAMABAD: Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Rubina Khalid, has emphasized that the elimination of child labour is essential for building a just, developed, and prosperous society. In her message on World Day Against Child Labour, Senator Rubina Khalid said that the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees the protection of children from exploitation and forced labour. She noted that Article 11 prohibits forced labour and child exploitation, while Article 25-A ensures every child’s right to free and compulsory education. “Children should hold books in their hands, not tools,” she stated, stressing the need to address the social and economic factors that force children into labour. The BISP chairperson said that providing education, healthcare, and protection to every child is a shared responsibility of the state and society. DNA
