The Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML) Lahore staged a protest demonstration against the petroleum levy, calling on the government to provide greater economic relief to citizens facing rising inflation and an increasing cost of living.
The protest was led by PMML Lahore General Secretary Chaudhry Hameed-ul-Hassan Gujjar. President Milli Richshaw Union Punjab Rana Shamshad, Chaudhry Muaz Ishtiaq and Adeel Amir, party leaders, workers and supporters participated in the protest.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers welcomed the recent reduction in petroleum prices announced by the prime minister but described the relief as inadequate in view of the economic challenges confronting the public. They urged the government to restore fuel prices to pre-conflict levels and abolish the petroleum levy, arguing that high fuel costs continue to place a heavy burden on millions of households.
The speakers said inflation remained one of the country’s most pressing issues and called for urgent measures to lower the prices of essential goods and services. They also demanded the withdrawal of additional electricity surcharges and called for subsidies on flour, sugar, cooking oil, ghee and medicines to support low- and middle-income families.
They said the public had shown patience during difficult economic conditions and now expected meaningful relief from the government. According to the speakers, reducing the prices of fuel, electricity and essential commodities would be an important step towards easing the financial pressure on citizens.
The speakers maintained that sustainable economic policies and targeted relief measures were necessary to improve living standards and reduce the burden on vulnerable segments of society.
