Traffic Warden Police in Swat have launched a crackdown against overcharging by public transport operators, with teams conducting inspections at various stands to ensure strict compliance with the government’s official fare list.
Acting on the directives of District Police Officer Swat Muhammad Umar Khan, SP Traffic Warden Swat Pervez Khan supervised inspections at transport stands in Matta and Barikot sectors on Saturday, according to an official statement.
During the visits, stand owners, transporters and drivers were directed to implement the state-notified fares without exception. Police teams also spoke directly with passengers on different highways to verify fares and assured them that legal action would be taken against anyone found charging more than the prescribed rates.
“Protecting passengers’ rights is our top priority, and no one will be allowed to charge fares above the official rates,” the Traffic Police teams said.
SP Pervez Khan said overcharging was “unacceptable” and that daily checks and monitoring would continue across the district. He added that drivers and transporters found in violation would face action under the law.
The SP also urged citizens to report any instance of overcharging immediately to the police helpline or to the nearest traffic warden to enable prompt action and safeguard commuter rights.
