Govt to conduct interviews of High Court judge candidates

Law minister Azam Nazir Tarar has said candidates for appointment of judges in high court will be interviewed for the first time.
“A 7-member committee has been constituted in connection with interview. Committee will conduct interviews of the short listed candidates.
He held examination is held for appointment of civil and sessions judge. Why the interview for the judges of high court should not be conducted . The process of appointment of judges should be based on merit.
We are bringing constitutional mechanism for the first time to assess the performance of judges, he said adding Judges Evaluation Committee will review the performance of judges by the end of every year.
He said when the cause list of cases is released at evening the lawyer knows it what will happen with this case. The lawyer knows either case will be decided or hair will grow grey.
All judges are respectable but this is money of tax payers. When perks and privileges are same then why the work is not the same.
The committee will work out reference and send to Judicial Commission in respect of judge whose performance is not good.
The committee can recommend to sack judge on unsatisfactory performance.
He held rule of law and upholding law is essential. Punjab Bar Council is taking better steps for lawyers. We are formulating policy for the treatment of lawyer and his family. The treatment of the lawyers will take place in private and government hospitals in regard to diseases of cancer, heart, kidneys.
Grant of Rs 135 crore has been given to bar councils in Punjab. Rs 2 crore will be given to Bar Vocational committee for this year program , he said.
