‘Promises of housing facilities for journalists to be fulfilled’

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan chaired an important meeting to review progress on Kohat Media Colony project. The meeting was attended by Secretary Information Matiullah Khan, Director General Housing Zahid Khan, Press Registrar Information Department Ansar ullah Khilji and other relevant officials.
Participants conducted a detailed review of the progress made on the project. The meeting was informed that 40 kanals of land had already been allocated for the establishment of Kohat Media Colony.
Addressing the meeting, Provincial minister Shafi Jan directed the relevant authorities to hire a consultant so that project’s design, planning and other technical processes could be completed at earliest.
Shafi Jan said that government would fullfil its commitments to provide residential facilities to journalist community. He added that funds had been earmarked in current fiscal year’s budget for establishment of media colonies.
Shafi Jan further said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had placed journalists welfare among its key priorities. He instructed the relevant authorities to continuously monitor progress on media colony projects to ensure relief for journalists.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Shafi Jan said practical measures to promote a free press and safeguard welfare of journalists would continue in future.
