Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement Aqib Ullah Khan on Friday called on all relevant institutions to strengthen mutual coordination and adopt proactive measures to effectively respond to any eventuality during the ongoing monsoon season.
During a visit to the Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence offices in Swabi, conducted on the directives of the Chief Minister, the minister reviewed the district’s preparedness and emergency response arrangements.
Mr Khan inspected the Rescue 1122 control room, fire and rescue units, water rescue teams, medical services, vehicles and modern equipment. He was briefed on the overall performance of Rescue 1122 in Swabi, the emergency response mechanism, available resources and special arrangements made for the monsoon season.
Praising the service of Rescue 1122, the minister said the force was playing a commendable role in providing timely and quality emergency services to the public.
“The provincial government will continue to provide all possible resources to further enhance the capacity of the institution, provide modern facilities and ensure the protection of public life and property,” he said.
He added that advance planning, timely action and effective coordination were indispensable to counter any emergency situation. He directed officers and personnel of Civil Defence to remain vigilant, maintain close liaison with Rescue 1122, district administration and other departments, and utilize all available resources to ensure immediate response in case of any untoward incident.
The minister also planted a sapling under the ongoing tree plantation campaign. He emphasized that afforestation was vital for environmental protection and mitigating the impacts of natural disasters, and that planting more trees was the need of the hours.
