Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of tribal leader and peace committee member Haji Izzat Gul in a terrorist attack in Hangu.
In a statement issued here, the provincial minister described the attack as a cowardly and condemnable act, saying that targeting a person who had worked for peace was highly regrettable.
He said Haji Izzat Gul had played a key and valuable role in resolving tribal disputes and promoting peace in Hangu and other districts, adding that his services would always be remembered.
Mr Jan said Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had announced a martyrs’ package for the family of the deceased. He added that the provincial government would also recommend a civil award in recognition of Haji Izzat Gul’s services for peace.
The minister said all tribal elders who had contributed to peace efforts were heroes of the province. He added that more than 500 tribal elders in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had sacrificed their lives for peace and that the provincial government highly valued their sacrifices.
He said the government shared the grief of the bereaved family and prayed for the elevation of the martyr’s ranks, patience for the heirs and early recovery of the person injured in the attack.
