Special Assistant to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister for Home and Tribal Affairs Tariq Saeed Marwat on Wednesday said that Aug 5, 2019, would be remembered as a “black day” in history, alleging that India’s decision to revoke the special constitutional status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir was a violation of international law and United Nations resolutions.
Addressing a rally held to mark Youm-i-Istehsal-e-Kashmir, Mr Marwat said Pakistan had neither forgotten the move nor would it allow the issue to be forgotten.
He said the Jammu and Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and called upon the international community, particularly the UN, to play its role in ensuring what he described as the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
The special assistant said that despite challenges facing the country, the Pakistani nation remained united on matters of national security, sovereignty and the Kashmir issue. He added that recent developments had shown that people stood together in safeguarding national interests and territorial integrity.
Mr Marwat reiterated that Pakistan would continue its political, diplomatic and moral support for the people of Kashmir. He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, under Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, also stood with Kashmiris and would maintain its support at all levels.
He said the Kashmiri people’s struggle was based on justice and truth and expressed confidence that their sacrifices would ultimately bear results.
The special assistant prayed for peace, stability and prosperity in Pakistan and for an early resolution of the Kashmir issue.
