Norwegian FM Eide also called on CDF and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi today, where the two sides discussed regional security, bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest.
During the meeting, Field Marshal Munir outlined Pakistan’s perspective on global peace and regional stability, underscoring the importance of cooperation and collective efforts to address shared security challenges, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
The Norwegian foreign minister appreciated the professional role played by the Pakistan Armed Forces in promoting regional peace and stability.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation in the defence and security sectors, the military’s media wing concluded.
Earlier today, FM Eide arrived in Islamabad for a two-day official visit, marking the highest-level engagement between Pakistan and Norway in a decade.
Upon his arrival, he was received at Islamabad airport by Additional Foreign Secretary (Europe) Ambassador Ayesha Ali.
The Norwegian foreign minister is visiting Pakistan at DPM Dar’s invitation.
According to the Foreign Office, the visit is aimed at further strengthening the longstanding and cordial relations between the two countries and exploring new avenues of mutually beneficial cooperation.
Ahead of the visit, the Foreign Office said the two sides would discuss ways to expand cooperation in trade and investment, climate change, renewable energy, education and people-to-people contacts, while also exchanging views on important regional and international developments.
