Deputy Commissioner Jamshed Khan on Tuesday urged local elders, religious scholars and residents to cooperate with the administration and police to maintain peace and improve the security situation in the district.
Addressing a peace jirga at his office, the deputy commissioner said lasting peace could not be achieved without active public cooperation. He said the administration, police, security forces, elders and residents would have to work together to create a peaceful environment.
Khan warned that those challenging the writ of the state would be dealt with firmly, adding that law-enforcement agencies were fully prepared to protect the lives and property of citizens. He paid tribute to the sacrifices of police and security forces and said their services would always be remembered. He described the families of police martyrs as a source of pride for the nation.
District Police Officer Abdul Samad Khan also stressed the importance of public cooperation in maintaining law and order and urged elders and community representatives to play a constructive role in resolving local issues.
During the jirga, elders and religious scholars briefed the administration on the security situation in their respective areas and highlighted problems faced by residents.
