ISLAMABAD
Leaders of several active farmers’ organizations from northern, southern and central Punjab met here on Tuesday with Sheikh Waqas Akram, PTI’s Central Information Secretary and Farmers Wing Organizer and Khalid Nawaz Sadhraich, spokesperson of PTI Farmers Wing and called on the government to immediately announce a formal wheat support price to safeguard farmers’ economic interests.
During the meeting, the farmers’ leaders categorically rejected the government’s indicative price policy for wheat arguing that it failed to provide meaningful financial protection to the farming community. The participants included representatives of Kisan Board Jaranwala and farmers’ organisations from Rawalpindi, Hafizabad, Phalia, Jhang, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Multan and other districts.
