Performance-audit of departments indispensible to achieve goal of good governance: Mahmood

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan Saturday assured cooperation to federal audit department and said that annual performance-audit of departments is indispensible to achieve the goal of good governance.
Talking with Auditor General of Pakistan Javed Jehangir here at CM house, he also agreed with the need to further strengthen existing audit system. He also directed provincial departments to provide timely cooperation to audit teams in performing duties.
Principal Secretary to CM Shahab Ali Shah, Director Generals Muhammad Asif Khan, Asmatullah Shah and Muhammad Jan besides other high ranking officers were also present on the occasion.
On the occasion, KP Chief Minister was briefed by Auditor General regarding objectives, important, procedure and different aspects of performance-audit of government departments and organizations.
He also informed CM about reforms and reorganization of the audit system and added that office of auditor general was meant to assist and cooperate with government to improve good governance in public departments.
Chief Minister agreed with reforms and reiterated government’s commitment to strengthen office of auditor general and said the annual performance-audit is essential to increase performance of the government departments.
Mehmood Khan also stressed to improve internal audit system of the departments and organizations and assured full cooperation to office of Auditor General.
He said provincial government aims to improve the performance of provincial departments and ensure productivity in their working adding that efforts made in this regard would be fully supported.
