Islamabad: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has urged the religious scholars to play their role in elimination of root causes of extremism in the society.
He was addressing the National Seerat Conference held in Lahore in connection with Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH).
Nawaz said Islam is the religion of peace and tolerance and it is regrettable that certain elements have distorted this very image by spreading anarchy and bloodshed.
The prime minister pointed out that due to the efforts and sacrifices of the national leadership, religious scholars, armed forces and police, the hideouts of the terrorists have almost been eliminated. He said it is the responsibility of religious scholars to re-establish the link between Islam and peace by taking guidance from the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet.
Nawaz Sharif said respect of humanity and human life is the inevitable part of Islamic teachings and the holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) laid the foundation of a society based on high moral values. Prime Minister said the last Prophet gave first written constitution in the form of Misaq-e-Madina and also the first charter of human rights in his last Hajj Sermon.
Nawaz said Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal had envisioned Pakistan as a modern Islamic state. The conference was attended by scholars belonging to different religions. The theme of the event for this year was “Interfaith harmony in light of the teaching of Islam and life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)”.
The Conference has been organized by Ministry of Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony in collaboration of the Punjab Auqaf Department. The objective of the Conference was to highlight the glorious teachings of the final messenger of Allah, Muhammad (PBUH) and disseminate the peace message of Islam all over the world.
Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif made a telephonic call to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Nawaz Sharif condoled the death of dozens of Turkish brethren in a terrorist attack in Istanbul.
Nawaz strongly condemned the brutal attack. He reiterated that Pakistani people stand by Turkish nation against terrorism. At least 38 people were killed and 155 injured near the Vodafone Arena when a car bomb hit a police vehicle and a suicide bomber blew himself up nearby after a top-division football match.
The attacks Saturday night targeted police officers, killing 30 of them along with seven civilians and an unidentified person. Thirteen people were arrested in connection with the terrorist attack.
