Assets case: Physical remand of Khawaja Asif extended for ten days

LAHORE, Jan 13 (Online): Accountability Court (AC) has has extended physical remand of PML-N leader Khawaja Asif for ten days in accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income case.

The court ordered to present the accused again before it on expiry of physical remand.
Earlier the court had reserved the judgment on NAB plea seeking15 days physical remand of Khawaja Asif.

NAB Lahore presented Khawaja Asif before AC Wednesday.

Farooq H Naik filed the powers of attorney in the court on behalf of Khawaja Asif.

Farooq H Naik argued NAB started calling his client since 2019 at Rawalpindi. He was called five times. NAB Lahore also sent five notices to him. Reply to these notices was given. They came for investigaion four times during 13 days. My client should give the record from where which is not held by him. Khawaja Asif is not share holder of the company since 2015 which is being mentioned by NAB.

It was told to the court on behalf of Khawaja Asif “ does the law not allow him to do business if he is public office holder.

The counsel took the plea that the NAB has not told my client has transgrred the powers from where and where he caused loss to national kitty. NAB malafide intent is visible every where. If they have such bank account then they should bring it here. When all the record has been given then what they want now.. All the documents have been provided to them and they are conducting inquiry since the last two years. The court is therefore, requsted that it should issue orders to make Khawaja Asif judicial.

NAB Prosecutor took the plea the owner of foreign compnay says Khawaja Asif is his friend. He was asked that 4 bank accounts were operating in Dubai and he should provide their details. But Khawaja Asif refused to provide details saying he was paid in cash.

NAB Prosecutor took the plea Khawaja Asif has accummulated assets worth over Rs 800 million which don’t match to his income.

He pointed out that Khawaja Asif could not satisfy NAB about his assets despite opportunity was provided to him.

NAB Lahore investigation officer requested the court to extend physical remand of arrested Khawaja Asif for 15 days.

He informed the court Khawaja Asif became senator in 1991 and he owned the assets worth Rs 51 lac while his assets rose to Rs 221 million in 2018. They don’t match with his apparent income;

Farooq H Naik requested that court should order for arranging meeting of Khawaja Asif with his lawyers. If meeting is allowed at separate place then it will be better.
