At least four people, including an assistant commissioner, were martyred on Tuesday when a government vehicle came under terrorist attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district.
According to initial reports, AC North Waziristan Shah Wali Khan was travelling with his security squad from Miran Shah to the Peshawar High Court branch in Bannu when assailants lying in ambush opened fire on his vehicle along the Bannu–Miran Shah Road. The targeted attack resulted in the martyrdom of AC Shah Wali Khan, Constable Syed Rehman, Constable Khair-ur-Rehman, and a passerby, said police.
Two other constables sustained injuries and were shifted to a nearby health facility for medical treatment.
Funeral prayers for the martyrs were offered with full official honours at Bannu Cantt, attended by senior civil and military officials including Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Inspector General of Police KP Zulfiqar Hameed, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Bannu Sajjad Khan, Commissioner Bannu Khalid Mahmood, Brigadier Umair Khan Niazi, DPO Bannu Yasir Afridi, DPO North Waziristan Sajjad Hussain, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Fahim Khan, and SP CTD Fazal Wahid.
A formal salute was presented to the martyrs’ coffins, and floral wreaths were laid in tribute.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary and IGP KP paid homage to the martyrs, stating that they had laid down their lives in the line of duty for the security of the nation. They reaffirmed that such cowardly acts of terrorism would not weaken the government’s resolve.
They further reiterated that the sacrifices of the fallen personnel would not go in vain, vowing that the perpetrators would be brought to justice and that efforts to eradicate terrorism in the Bannu region would be intensified with the support of local communities.
