Dissemination of authentic information is essential to counter the misconceptions about Polio Virus, Media is a powerful tool to educate the masses of remote areas of Southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on different health subjects.
This was noted by the Coordinator EOC Abdul Basit while addressing the Journalists of district Tank and Dera Ismail Khan during a daylong Media Orientation Workshop at Nathiya Gali, Abbotabad.
The training workshop was organized to orient the media persons of Southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on effective and authentic reporting for elimination of misperceptions about polio Vaccination.
Technical Focal person EOC Dr Imtiaz Ali Shah, National Professional Officer World Health Organization (WHO) Dr Sarfaraz Afridi, Security Analyst EOC Qazi Saifullah and other resource persons of the workshop educated the Journalists from Dera Ismail Khan Division about the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), Polio Structure, national and regional polio figures and Operational and Communication Challenges of Anti-Polio Campaign.
Senior Journalist Mehmood Jan Baba interacted with the media persons on how to develop an authentic and credible story while working under stress situations.
National Professional Officer WHO Dr Sarfaraz Afridi oriented the media persons about the history of polio, types and spread mode of Polio, vaccine safety and efficacy.
Meantime an interactive session facilitated clarity responses to the different questions asked by the participating journalists.
The media persons termed the workshop highly fruitful for developing and reporting authentic news.
